SCHMIDT SCIENCES
Schmidt Sciences has made transformational investments at U of T in support of emerging generations of STEM scholars driving change through AI.
Founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt, Schmidt Sciences works to accelerate scientific knowledge and breakthroughs with the most promising, advanced tools to support a thriving planet. The organization prioritizes research in areas poised for impact including AI and advanced computing, astrophysics, biosciences, climate, and space—as well as supporting researchers in a variety of disciplines through its science systems program.
With the goal of accelerating scientific research Schmidt Sciences has made a transformational investment in nine global universities, including the University of Toronto. That investment launched The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, a large-scale initiative supporting the work of early-career scholars in engineering and the natural sciences, such as mathematics, chemistry or physics.
Hosting 20 postdoctoral fellows at U of T annually, the program provides training in how to apply AI techniques and offers a robust series of workshops, conferences and lectures. It aims to dramatically accelerate humanity’s ability to address some of the most urgent issues of our time by creating unparalleled opportunities for new generations of STEM researchers.
Through its inspiring vision and immense generosity, Schmidt Sciences is pushing the boundaries of what is possible and creating a brighter, bolder future for everyone.
