DOROTHY H. MCROBB

A proud alumna of Woodsworth College, Dorothy Helen McRobb left a transformational gift of nearly $10 million toward her scholarship fund when she passed away in 2023.

Dorothy Helen McRobb was born in 1931 as the only child of Harry and Bertha McRobb. Passionate about learning and education, she earned a Certificate in Institutional Management from the University of Toronto in 1952 before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Woodsworth College and graduating in 1972.

McRobb went on to enjoy a rewarding career as a registered professional accountant with the Government of Ontario. Toward the end of her working years, she was appointed as vice-chair of the Ontario Municipal Board. Following her retirement in 1991, she travelled around the world, bought and sold real estate and supported various causes close to her heart, including serving on the board of directors of the Canadian Federation of University Women, Barrie and District Chapter.

Throughout her life, McRobb maintained a strong connection with U of T. She began donating to the university in 1981, and in 2005, she established the Dorothy Helen McRobb Scholarship at her alma mater, Woodsworth College. McRobb made annual donations to the fund, eventually supporting more than 20 students annually on the basis of both merit and financial need.

When she passed away in 2023 at the age of 92, McRobb left a bequest of close to $10 million to Woodsworth College to bolster her scholarship fund, making the Dorothy Helen McRobb Scholarship the largest award at Woodsworth College. This extraordinary act of generosity will ensure the Dorothy Helen McRobb Scholarship can support even more students each year and, as a permanent resource at U of T, remove barriers to a world-class education at Woodsworth College for generations to come.

A powerful testament to her passion for education and love of U of T, McRobb’s remarkable legacy of giving will create a ripple effect of positive change.
